This interactive tool includes data collected by CIRI (2015-present) on particle and chemical emissions from fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printing using a chamber testing method. Studies have shown emissions can be affected by print conditions like filament base material, filament brand, filament color, filament type, and other factors. This tool will display particle and chemical emission rates for a selected material both with and without filtration during printing.
Using this tool, you can find out:
- Particle emission rates;
- Individual volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released and emission rates;
- Names of VOCs emitted chemicals and their associated health or indoor air quality concerns;
- Print conditions’ impact on emissions;
- High vs. low emitting conditions; and
- Comparison to emission criteria from the ANSI/CAN/UL 2904 standard.
Data are plotted in the figure, as well as listed in the table; you can sort and search in the table to find specific data of interests. You can also download a data table if desired. Use the question mark icon by each parameter to see detailed explanations.
